Steve - you did awesome mate, it's very humbling being in the same weight class and lifting against you. I had a nightmare at the same comp - loads of excuses LOL. Programming wise - I used cycle #30 leading up to this comp and I think it was way too much for my level (level 3 rated lifter) - which validates everything Eric talks about re volume/intensity for the different ratings. A month ago I was considering using a CMS template for my Nationals - crazy. I'll be doing your 13 week cycle leading up to the Nationals Dave. Please feel free to bollock me Steve if I start going crazy again.

Yeah I have done sessions like that totally raw and without the SPP exercises when really pushed for time. Not fun.

Hi xjowelx, I should firstly point out that I am no great bencher (195kg @ 125).
Also, the bench set up I have stolen directly from what I have seen Wade Hooper do in his training videos, so I can't claim any of that. The only problem is I don't know what bar to chain weight he uses.
Personally, if you are training for a shirted bench, then I think you would want to use quite a bit of chain weight and reduce the bar weight. I think Eric and Dave suggest just adding a single set of chains and keeping the bar weight as is, but I'm not sure if they suggest that for raw benchers only.
I set my chains up so that they are fully off the ground at lockout and full deloaded at the bottom. So to keep an "average" load, I take 50% of the chain weight from the RAW bar weight.
I.e. Let's say you benched 400lbs raw - if I was using 50lbs of chain and my straight bar weight would be 340lb (~400*.85), then I would put 315lb (340-50/2) onto the bar with the 50lbs of chains. So you are getting ~315lb at the chest and ~365lb at lockout

I'm 6'2" and looking at the decent taller lifters in the IPF, I obviously need to be SHW. I'm ~270lb now, so I think I have another 38lb or so to go until I get to my ideal weight. I'm way too tall to be a decent 125 I think.

Does this answer your question? Absolutely. I really appreciate you sharing all this great info through your detailed logging and Q&A Eric, thanks a lot.

Eric, I've noticed in your log that you're doing circuits of developmental SPP exercises. I assume these are quite light? Most exercises you are doing for 10 reps, how many do you think you could do with the weight you have chosen?

Eric, Dave,
If you could only do GPP stuff on say 1 day a week, would you do more in that session compared to a session if you were doing GPP 3 days a week?
I badly need "cardio" type GPP. I'm extremely busy during the week (I lift Mon/Wed/Fri) but I could devote quite a bit of time to GPP on a Saturday. If you were in that position, what would you strive to work up to on that day?
Thanks.

Bagpipe Battista - You do your board presses as a 1st movement don't you? No, I do:- Day 1 - Raw bench with chain Day 2 - Raw pyramid Day 3 - Shirt work I do 3 board as my second bench movement regardless of which day it falls on.
