So, I have been browsing these forums, as well as many other onlines sources for Sheiko's programs, and decided to give it a go 2 months ago.
A little background on me, I'm 28 and have been training for roughly 10 years, and sadly had many setbacks along the years which prevented me to be where I would want to be strength-wise. I would say I started train correctly (squats/deads/bench etc..) about 6-7 years ago. I did some MAX-OT for about 2 years which helped me to some good gains, then found out about periodization and did another program for about a year. Then I finally gave 5x5 a try for the last 3 years, (Madcow's advanced). I've made some good progress on 5x5, but felt after 3 years I was due for a change, especially a change in sets/reps schemes. Here comes Sheiko.
I did week 29, 37, and just started 32 (like almost everybody does I think). On the second day of week 32, which I was doing today, you test your 100-105% lifts. I probably went all wrong about it, but I was sure I would finally beat my maxes, and sadly failed on both bench and deadlift.
I did 425, a new PR, on squats. Very happy about this, and was expecting it.
I tried and failed 315 on bench, after doing the training with a previous max of 300.
I tried and failed 495 on deads, after doing the training with a previous max of 495.
Basically, I feel like this training has been quite hard on my joints (chest), and I am unsure if i'll continue with it. I don't feel like i've gained much strength, if any, and have joints that hurt a little bit whereas they never did before (Although doing paused-bench is new for me).
On deadlift, I really expected to do 495, but then again after maxing on the squats I'm thinking thats probably a big factor, and possibly that I'll do better if I retest myself at end of week 32. However I never feel like I lift heavy enough on deadlift days, and think I could go slightly heavier, but then that doesn't seem to really with with the given percentages.
Anyway, just felt like sharing my story. Sheiko is interesting, and I like the change it brings, I have to re-evalute and adjust a few things if I will stick with it. Sadly i've been a little bit on the bulking side for the last 3 months and had planned to start cutting next week, so it'll be much harder to get my goals now.
My stas:
6'3
226lbs
squat: 425
bench: 300
deads: 490
Hoping to FINALLY do 3 plates on bench, and break 5 plates on deads!
