So I want to do a meet that has a tentative date of 6/27. I will be completing the 13 week program on 6/1 as it now stands. Then the first week of June I will be leaving to get married, so I will not be training. I am just finishing week 5 of the 13 week beginner program and everything is in working order so far. The volume does not seem to be too much and recovery seems good.
So how the hell do I prepare for this meet?
Here are some options I've come up with so far:
1. Finish the 13 week program as scheduled on 6/1. Repeat week 4 training the week I get back (6/7-6/13). Then the next 2 weeks do week 11 and week 12 training.
2. Finish my 2nd volume block (weeks 5-8) then complete another volume block by 6/1. If weeks 5-8 go well then repeat that. When I get back complete week 9, skills evaluation but only work up to about 90%, except bench. Then complete weeks 11 and 12 going into the meet.
3. Finish my 2nd volume block then do 3 more weeks high volume and complete week 9 (skills evaluation) right before leaving. When I get back hit one more week of higher volume then do weeks 11 and 12.
Any of these ideas sound good? Would something else be better? This will only be my second meet, my first one was a very small one put on by the gym I train at. My peaking was all jacked up for that meet hence my being paranoid about peaking properly.
Thanks for any and all help!
Matt

Trying to figure out them options made my brainz hurt.
If I get you right you have 3 weeks when you get back. As a general guide what I would do is hit it very hard the week before you go away (harder than programmed - high volume and intensity). You should recover fine due to time off.
I'd have a medium vol/load session ont monday of 1st week back and do all 3 lifts. Then a deload session the weds/thurs and try and hit all 3 at 90% for a couple of singles on the sat/sunday.
Then the last 2 weeks as programmed I guess. Tough one though, Dave will probably give you a better answer.

We will get you squared away, so don't worry We wouldn't want you to have "performance anxiety" while you are away on your honeymoon!

Hahaha, too damn funny!!! I am doing the unequipped program with a twist! I just got a bench shirt and started using it during the 4th week of the program. For the rest of the program I will be doing the equipped protocol for bench only. I didn't want to make this all so darn complicated. Thanks for any and all help Eric!

I have a tough time writing clearly sometimes, I apologize if what I wrote was a complete disaster. Appreciate the suggestions!

Hmmm. you have 11 weeks as of today 4/13 It is my understanding you will not be training the week of June first, correct? once you have completed wk 8, do this: repeat wks 5,6,7,and 8. week off from (5/31 - 6/6) back training monday, 6/8 do wks 10,11 and 12 (meet wk) If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Perfect, thanks very much Dave!
So I will be skipping the skills evaluation, correct? And yes you were correct about the week I will be taking off and the amount of time I have before the meet.
Thanks again,
Matt

So the meet got moved to June 20, what do I do now? I get back from the honeymoon late on June 8. As right now I am finishing up week 8 and plan to repeat weeks 5-8 before I leave June 2.
Might it be a good idea to fit a skills evaluation in before I leave June 2?
One thought is after I finish week 8, then do weeks 6-9, take a week off, return and do week 10, then week 12 after I get back. The idea of not having any real training stress for 3 weeks kind of worries me, that is taking the week off then doing weeks 11 and 12 when I get back.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am currently doing the program on Wed., Fri., and Sun. I get back from vacation late Monday night, so I plan on training Tues., Thurs., Sun. the week I get back. Then maybe just train Tuesday before the meet?
Sorry about all the complications!
Thanks for any and all help!
Matt

I am about to head out the door to walk my dogs, but I just called Dave and told him about your situation. Dave told me to tell you that he will get to it sometime tonight. We got you covered.
