Hi guys,
I've got a while till my next competition (31st May) so just doing some investigation to weigh up my options in terms of weight classes. Current weight is around 80k first thing in the morning, have the option of going for either 75k or 82.5k class. Basically, if I can get into the 75k class, I have a shot at making qualification for the Brits (+25k on my current total), if I go for the 82.5k's, I have to get another 45k, which is far less likely!
So, the question. Lets say I can take off a couple of kilo's by then and I'm hovering at 78k, is it advisable to take 3k off your weight with a 2 hour weigh in and what are some strategies for making it and getting it back up? I'm a fast oxidizer who does well on a lot of fat if that helps...
The other option is to put on a few kilo's and lift as a full 82.5k. I will have absolutely no problem doing that!

You have plenty of time. Ideally I would start dieting now and depending on how lean you are (?) you should be able to drop a few lbs via carb/kcal restriction. Also extra light G.P.P workouts from now will help to drop an extra pound or so...even if its just walking everyday for an hour! If you can't drop more than a kilo from now and the end of may dropping 4kg via water/food restriction is an easy task anyway. Dandelion root and a full 24 hour food/water restriction can take off 3-4kg from personal experience and will have no ill effects assuming you do everything right. If you find yourself within 2kg of the 75kg class I would just jump in the sauna 2 hours before hand if you can find one... Just ensure for next year you are strong enough to qualify for 82kg's!

If i remeber rightly sunshine the last time you cut weight by water last minute it killed you to death! ;D I once dropped from 86.5 to 82.5 overnight and although i made it, i wouldnt do it again. The juice is not worth the squeeze IMO. It killed me to death too and I really dont think that the extra couple of kilos over the limit you might be after getting rehydrated is worth the night and morning of stress beforehand. I read Shelby Starnes saying a max of 1-2% bw overnight by water for a 2hr weigh in and i wouldnt do more than that again...thats up to around 1.5kg in your case Mark which is definately do-able.

Haha only because I muffed it up! First time out I cut 4-5kg ish with no ill effects, managed a brit record first time out (beating Ola to it )...I also ended up a plump 96.4kg at the end of that day...not bad going. ;D Second time I stuffed it up big time, weighin on the wrong scales which put me 1.7kg (?) out and then forgot my electrolyte mix and whey for post weigh in!
