Hi everyone,
A friend and i are making a documentary on Russian powerlifting and the reasons behind the success of Russian powerlifters.
I should say that I am British, live in Moscow, speak Russian and have frequent contact here with Russian powerlifters and their trainers. My friend is a Russian powerlifter and powerlifting enthusiast. We are both involved in professional documentary filmmaking.
With my introduction out of the way, I would like to put to you all a question or two regarding the content of the documentary:
1) In the documentary, what would you like to see i.e. what would you like to know about Russian powerlifting?
2) Following on from question 1, what so-called secrets would you like to discover or do you think exist?
3) Why do you think Russian powerlifters are so successful?
4) What interest is there in such a documentary film? It will be sold as a DVD.
Please, if you would, answer each question fully, giving as much information as possible; it will help us enormously in putting together the documentary.
Out of interest, how many people use this forum? Is it active?
Thanks.

Wow i (and everyone on my team, 12 or so lifters) would LOVE to see this.
1) Programming...how they train in terms of periodisation, routines, exercise selection, equipment usage.
Coaching...the role of coaches in bringing lifters through. Coaching methodologies.
Training...how the clasification system really works. Who gets funded to do what. Where top lifters train and what kind of facilites they make use of (including restoration and GPP)
2) Honestly? I think the 'secret' is having a massive pool of lifters to choose from and then giving the very top ones access to the greatest drugs ever synthesised!
3) See point 2, but also because they draw on a lot of the experience of the soviet era athletics research.
4) I think it would sell, but you need to get it on Powerlifting Watch. That site probably has more traffic than the rest of the internet powerlifing sites put together. This forum has very low traffic (although everyone on it is interested in russian powerlifting)

Thanks for your reply Ben. Everything you have said has already been taken into account. We already have some great footage and interviews with a who's who of Russian powerlifting. This is going to be a very in-depth film, not just a superficial look at powerlifting with nice editing etc.

I will be interested to seeing this DVD!
Im with BEN on all the answer that he SAID.....
1) I want to see how is they "nutrition" and I want to see what is the real secret for them pulling sumo?? Also What really determines how wide or close is the sumo technique...
What are the real supplements they take during training for a contest, and before a workout, and after.
How do they determines whether they should make adjustments on a technique, whether is on the squat, bench, deadlift???
When will the DVD come out for sell??

It will, hopefully, be ready in mid-December after we have finished editing material from the IPF World Championships in November.
