By way of background, I haven't competed for near on 18 months due to family life (was IPF 90kg lifter previously training 4 times a week with a team), so a gym test is as exciting as gets at the moment - haha. I train raw save for maxing out on deadlifts when I use a belt (no particular reason). Anyhow, I just did 37/37/condition week/second block of Dave's reduced volume/32. Had a mixed bag of results, though I think my deadlift (conventional) is stagnating. Here's the numbers -
Squat - 170kg/180kg/190kg (12.5kg PB)
Bench - 135kg/145kgX/145kgX/145kg (2.5kg PB)
Dead - 225kg/240kgX
I took a video of the squat, probably right on depth wise and probably right on where I am with that lift at the moment. With the bench, the 145kg first attempt misgroved, which was weird and I thought it might be due to a small bend the bar had, second attempt same thing happened. So for the third, I changed the bar (dead straight) and it came up ok. If I had hit the 145kg the first time, might of had 147.5kg, who knows and it didn't happen. The deadlift is a bit of a mystery. I hit 240kg last time (29/37/32) and 235kg came up fine in the first week of 32. I missed 240kg just below the knees today and by that time, needed to leave so I didn't try again (was hoping to hit 250kg to be honest). I've lifted 260kg at 89kg in a suit (currently weight 99.5kg) and I am the sort of person who gets a lot of carry over from the crowd, atmosphere etc at a comp still, I did 240kg in the gym earlier this year so this was a letdown.
In summary, I'm happy with the squat and bench (would have liked another 2.5kg though given the length of the training cycle!) though will have a good think about how I am training the dead (was actually thinking of coming up with a spreadsheet comparing volume and intensity over a twelve week period of full deadlift from 37/37/32 versus the linear progression program I used to follow). Anyhow, will take a week off to rest and think before starting a twelve week cycle. Was initially thinking of doing 29/37/32 again (with the current goal to lift 200/150/250 in 2010).
