I am on my first Sheiko routine, the 12 week reduced volume and I wanted to get some input on maxing out. I have gone 405-275-600 this year in my last meet. I figured my routine on 360-270-540. After 2 weeks it seems odd that the squats and deads are fairly tough but the bench is fairly easy. Seein as I cut my maxes for the sq/dead by 10% and used my true bench I didnt expect this. Right before I started Sheiko I hit a 270 bench and a 380 squat in my training. I am a meet lifter; I can hardly ever squat over 360 in my basement and I almost never dead over 550. When I get to a meet then I am good to go. That being said has anyone experienced difficulty when it came time for skills eval and maxing? I'm not sweating the bench, the squat could be tough but pulling 540+ in my basement seems like a tall order. Any thoughts?

So do you feel you need the excitement/nerves of a comp for you to do your best on squat/dead?

Definitely! I can sometimes get amped enough in training; like when I did ME westside. I have box squatted 400+ and pulled 550+ deficit deads. But reg squat and dead usually end up undermining my confidence in training. Going in the hole and having the bar glued to the floor really stink! At meets though I use min. warm ups; usually no more than 275-225-425 and still think I am too slow. Then when I step out on the platform it is as if I can flip a switch and I end up suprising myself because I dont have time time to think! Its great, nothing beats it!

Hard to advise on this cos it is so obvioulsy a mental issue rather than a programming one.
If you are absolutely adamant that you cannot physically sq 80% of your platform max for triples in your basement i suppose i would say base the numbers on whatever you are capable of in your basement.
Its not going to work as well though.
