I listen to SuperHumanRadio alot - they've had some fascinating interviews on there in the past about stuff like raw diary, paleo dieting, raw foods, the history of weightlifting / bodybuilding, the cancer-fighting effects of herbs like ginger, etc. Some of the adverts and music leave a bit to be desired though This was a really good interview Eric. Your discussion on how pH changes are fundamental, and the fact that there is no universal acidifying / alklaizing effect of specific foods (you use protein powders as a good example) because its which FHC that is dominant will determine this. This is a really difficult concept for alot of people to get their heads around, because alot of people constantly hear about how we are too acidic and we should all alkalize, and that meats will ALWAYS acidify, and vegetables will ALWAYS alakalize. MT totally throws this out of the window, and that really irks alot of so called 'professionals'. Also, i think your example about a supposed superfood like broccoli potentially not being good for everyone is really going to shock alot of people. They wont twig the fact that the micronutrient profile in something like broccoli maybe totally wrong for certain persons metabolic imbalances. You stated that most of the strength athletes you work with are Para or Fast Ox dominant? Aside from perhaps genetic predospositions, Do you think that this could be the type of training that does this? I'm starting to see a trend that the more a person stress their nervous system (such as with heavy / fast lifting), the more thier sympathetic ANS shuts down leaving the Parasympathetic ANS 'in the driving seat', and also their Oxidative metabolism speeds up to meet the stress demand.past.

Thanks for the kind words about the inteview, Rob. I had a lot of fun on Carl's show. I believe it is the other way around. I think the types of sports that many gravitate towards are (in many cases) a direct result of their Metabolic Types.

Great job eric, ive been following your videos and articles every since i saw your stuff on eric cresseys site and then ironically enough i go to listen to superhumanradio and start laughing that carl did a show on metabolic typing.... ne ways i took the test from the MT website and turns out im para and fast-o dominant; these results brought up a few questions regarding weight training so i hope u dont mind the questions.
First it says i shoulda avoid whey, does this mean tossing out the WPI, and in regards to other supps like NO products, should i stop using these also?
Second if im trying to gain weight how would MT go about this... should i just add a little bit of cals to each meal or what, cause im in baseball offseason and i wanted to gain some weight.
Thx in advance and this was my first day of eating MT meals from my list, i really screwed up on the meal before my workout cause i was tired and yawning between lifts ugh.

Welcome to the forum! You should have taken the Advanced MT test with me Protein types (Paras and Fast Oxidizers-FO's) will not thrive on whey protein because there is no fat in whey protein. The way to make whey protein work is to add enough fat from sources that work for a protein type i.e. coconut oil, olive oil, cream, etc. However, even the best constructed shake will usually fall short for a protein type. The whey protein just does not have the purines in it to generously push you far enough alkaline like the meats would. I would never use a shake as a meal and only occasionally use it as a snack. Even at that, I would incorporate your fats, coconut flour, Ultra Greens #2, etc. Gaining weight while doing MT is simple: merely eat more of the foods that are right for your type. Don't add in empty or junk calories. Just eat more steak, more beans, more leafy greens, more nuts, more cheese, more bacon, etc. In addition, you should not go longer than 3 waking hours without a meal. If you stick to these two "rules" and continue to adhere to sound athletic programming then you will gain weight. Nice having you on board! Eric

"The sport picks the athlete, the athlete doesn't pick the sport" Coming from a strength coach at a division I university; I wonder if anyone would argue with you!?
