Just a heads up from a numpty...
After my last meet i was in pretty awesome shape well for me anyway. But i done 3 meets back to back and wanted a rest, so I went on holiday twice and got drunk for a month really doing just bits and bobs of training.
Im on 2nd week back now, did a conditioning week and now on a 'normal' prep cycle but my work capacity is SO down...i cant complete the bench pyramid at the moment!!! Strength is also a bit down but mainly its my conditioning...
We bust our nutz getting into a condition where we can cope with the volume demands of these cycles my advice is dont give it up easily its a right ball ache getting it back!

Yep, you gotta stay on top of that base conditioning year round! I remember reading Zatsiorsky in 'Science and Practice of Strength Training' saying that he never understood why western athletes allow themselves to get so out of condition after major comps.
Even on holidays, a few sprints on the beach, calisthenics, plyometrics, swims, etc. will help when you get back in the gym.

Relax Benny, it'll come back quickly. You've caned it all year long, a couple of weeks won't do you any harm.

BUMP!
Ole Pissy McDrinkpants does it again!
Had a GREAT meet first week in December and was in amazing shape. Since then I have trained about 3 times and sunk enough booze to get an elephant tired and emotional. Had a light session sunday night, it killed me to death and im still sore as a mother.
I have been snowboarding for a week to be fair oh well back to the old routine.
Does anyone else go through periods of anti-training before getting back to it? I feel like i invest a lot mentally into a competition and after a good performance i just cant train with any consistency and just want to socilise and drink with the lads for a while.
Does anyone else drink much? Not you Bagpipe i know your nocturnal habits all too well.

I've learnt not to drink much. Causes me to procrastinate in anyway and everyway possible. Got slightly pissed at the work break up otherwise it's been a couple of beers with a meal and that's it. Didn't even touch it NYE. I've actually had a case of Wexfords sitting in my cupboard for near on a year, happy to send it over to you haha.
