Eric-
I've been using Cataplus before and after training with great results (reduced soreness, primarily).
At the moment, I'm in a dramatic weight-loss phase. I had bulked up to over 270 lbs and now sit at 245 on my way down to about 235. I have been vacillating over using Cataplus prior to my fasted morning cardio. On the one hand, a slight anabolic boost seems like the right idea to prevent any potential muscle wasting that may occur doing fasted cardio. (To be honest, I think that is probably overplayed, but I have that standard fear of burning up hard earned muscle.) On the other hand, having read and listened about the connection between the aerobic system and catabolism vs. the anaerobic system and anabolism, I can't help but wonder if this type of Cataplus usage my actually be detrimental to what I am trying to achieve by doing moderate aerobic work for fat burning purposes. After all, burning fat is a catabolic process.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Noah D.

Jusy my 2 cents - i would focus on staying anabolic around training (i.e use anabolic foods, and using cataplus), because it will help with lean mass preservation, and if you are a strength athlete its particularly important because being in an anabolic state will will improve anaerobic performance for weights.
Other times when you arent training, you could skew your food choices towards slightly more catabolic / aerobic ones based upon Dr Revici's and Guy Schenkers work, which, as you pointed out, would help with fat loss

I don't believe that the anabolic supplements would necessarily help when you are doing fasted cardio first thing in the morning. However, it would be really easy to find out. You could do the cardio in the morning in a fasted state and not take the anabolic supplements and then evaluate the rest of your day and especially how you feel into the night and upon waking up the following day. Next, you would want to try the anabolic supplements with the morning cardio and then evaluate everything else and then directly compare it to the experience before. What noticeable changes-if any-were there? Bill constantly reminds me to "Assume Nothing" and so even though my gut and my mind are thinking one thing, I know that it may be the wrong thing. By pulling out your DCR's and making an objective comparison (or maybe it takes 2 or 3 or 10 comparisons) I know for sure you will discover your answer as to whether the supplementation is a good idea or not for the cardio workout.

Eric:
So you're saying I should test it and see how it works for me, huh? Hehe. I always seem to forget that part. I have such a tendency to think of these things in absolutes. Still trying to chip away at a lifetime of false programming. I will give it a shot. Thanks.
P.S. Good to be on here. I'm excited to have a place to toss around ideas and questions.

We are excited to have you on here, Noah! Always think of things in terms of the individual. If anyone says that you should do X or Y then turn around and walk the other way, because they have not taken the individual aspect into account and thus do not know what they are talking about. Nobody knows what you need better than you!
