Hey guys, currently I am starting week 8 of the unequipped program listed on this site. My original plan was not to do any meets until spring but a meet was just announced in my area that I am considering entering. The meet is scheduled for February 26 and I should complete this program around January 22 that would leave 5 weeks to peak for this meet. Does anyone have any ideas as to what type of program I could do for the 5 weeks leading to the meet should I decide to enter? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would just extend the prep part of the program an extra 5 weeks. After week 8, I would do the conditioning week as a bit of a deload and then repeat weeks 5-8 giving you 5 extra week. I would then go into weeks 9-12 of the program which is the peaking portion.

Thanks for the response Joel, given the short time frame something like your option would probably be the best way to go.

I have one more question. Usually I take my last heavy training session a week out from a meet and then deload the week of the meet. From what I have read here and the advice Joel previously gave me most people do this program right up to meet day and use the last workout of this program for the warm ups and three attempts. Is this the usual protocol or would it be acceptable to complete this program a week out like I usually do and the deload the week of the meet? Any input would be appreciated.

Wk 13 of the cycle should be a deload week anyway...it will likely be 70% for a couple of doubles on days 1 and 2 then the meet on day 3...do your 'normal' warm ups and attempts would be my advice, assumin they have worked well previously.

Yes, like Benny say, week 13 of the program as written is a deload.

Thanks for responding Joel and Ben, I believe it would probably be better to run the program right up to the meet as opposed to taking 102% a week out. Currently I am using the conditioning week as a deload for this week. I ran the first nine weeks of this program including the skills evaluation(I needed to see if I am progressing with this program or not). For the final six weeks I was planning on just going back to week 7 and completing the program as written. Does sound good or do you think repeating the skills evaluation only three weeks later isn't a good idea?

Firstly, how did your skills evaluation go?
There are many ways to go, but it really depends how you feel. I would say that since you've only just done a skills, you won't need another before your comp and could do an extra week of prep and skip the skills evaluation week.

The skills evaluation went well I suppose. I hit the 95%on the squat and deadlift rather easily although the 95% on the bench was a bit of a grinder. I feel I should easily be able to do the 102% on the squat and deadlift. I am actually thinking of shooting for 105% come meet day. The bench on the other hand I feel I will be lucky to hit the training max I have been using come meet day.
