Funny you mention that, im going to add that into the cycle im starting tonight. My bench isnt the best and i think hitting different angles especially closer grip will force my chest to be more involved than it is.
I'm coming in a handwidth or so and trying the same weights seeing its second round and lighter and playing by ear how it feels as to whether i drop it.
Ill let you know how it goes

Ill let you know how it goes Close grip is going to be more triceps, not pectorals. I've played around lots with grips and to be honest, I just do everything with my comp grip now, unless I'm actually doing CG presses for tricep SPP where I go very narrow.

I've played around lots with grips and to be honest, I just do everything with my comp grip now, unless I'm actually doing CG presses for tricep SPP where I go very narrow. I hear what your saying but with wide grip i seem to rely on where my pecs tie into my shoulders, its become obvious that they are massive from all this volume. The thinking of the lifter who suggested the closer grip is that the increased range of motion and really pulling the shoulders back will move the load in to the centre more when i punch off the chest. In a sense im taking a step back to move forward, this may not help my comp bench now but i think long term it will spread the load more. And yes of course my tris will take a beating at the same time. My bench is crap so im willing to step back and get it right. time will tell if it works, last night they felt horrible but the extra rom made me work very hard... For the first session i still went comp grip

you could also try feet in the air for the second bench. I tried that last night and seemed to work chest more, might need to drop the weight slightly as Day one of 29, second bench session was almost maxing with Feet in air.
I do all my raw benching with a medium grip( little fingers on rings ), and all my shirt benching with a max comp grip. I was getting shoulder problems when doing all with comp grip
