Thanks for the kind words, Phil. Our research has become even more refined since those DVD's came out in September due to Dave being able to work with more and more lifters. If you decide to try this type of programming, contact my coach Dave Bates at veggaman@gmail.com. We were talking about the latest 13 week template for over an hour yesterday in the parking lot after my skills evaluation. Nowhere on the net will you find this information besides emailing Dave. You're welcome, Erik. I will definitely contact Dave if I go with Sheiko training. By the way, I had a guy send me a private message on the T-Nation forum and he was asking about training methods. He is interested in Sheiko and I gave him Dave's email address. Thanks for spreading the word, Philip! As of 06 April 2009, St. Louis seminar DVD orders are now being filled by BMF Sports; and orders placed this week may be delayed in shipping by two days while the change is being made. Eric

i have done this cycle and got pretty good results. i am a cms lifter. what class of lifter does this cycle qualify too. i am 240 my lifts are 600,465,and 535. the cycles on the elite web site what cycle would you recommend. Either the CMS, 37, or 38 would be good. Dave also has some new stuff that is actually probably more suited to your needs than any of those three. Ask him about the 4 day/week Bill McD program.

so you take just few kgs from your knee wraps? I like very much squattingi in wraps. I think is (as opposed to squat suit) knee wraps can help to increase a lot your squat, is just like a "deloading exercise", but better than WSB band version. I get about 20-25kg from my wraps. I quite like squatting with just wraps. What I did last building up to my last comp was:- Day 1 - Full equipment Day 3 - Just wraps Any secondary squatting was done totally raw. Interesting that you get that much out of just wraps. Which ones do you use? We are projecting that I will roughly get 18kg with the addition of wraps in the competition on April 18; but we will have to wait and see. Good stuff on this thread!

Steroidal Hormone Balance “The 11th FHC” Copyright © 2008 HealthExcel by Bill Wolcott
Introduction
The purpose of this article is the momentous addition of the 11th Fundamental Homeostatic Control (FHC) – Steroidal Hormone Balance (SHB) -- to the HealthExcel System of Metabolic Typing®. It should be noted that although this introduction is made in January, 2009, and comes nearly 30 years after the discovery of the first FHC and the origination of our MT philosophy, the newest FHC jumps to the position of #3 in priority, surpassed only by the Autonomic and Oxidative FHC’s. That fact alone stands as sufficient testament to its importance and critical contribution to defining and properly addressing the requirements of metabolic individuality. Upon closer evaluation, the SHB FHC is really inexorably linked to the Autonomic FHC since the term “Autonomic Type” is actually shorthand for “Neuro-Endocrine Type.” The Autonomic Type encompasses the intimate relationships in both communication and regulation of the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic divisions of the ANS with the strengths, weaknesses, and functional efficiencies of their associated endocrine glands and other organs. Together, the Brain, the Autonomic Nervous System, and the Endocrines regulate all elements of metabolism. Hierarchical Organization The body is structured through a hierarchy of organization from the highest, most complex level to ever simpler levels where the higher levels are protective of the adjacent lower levels and the lower levels are dependent upon and subordinate to the adjacent higher levels. From most to least complex, the hierarchical levels are: Whole Organism => System => Gland/Organ => Tissue => Cell => Nuclear => Sub-Nuclear Hierarchy as per functional efficiency is manifest within each of the levels, as well. Within the Endocrine System, the Hypothalamus and the Pituitary (in conjunction with the Brain, of course) are the “master regulators” upon which all regulatory function of all other elements of metabolism depend. But next in line in terms of regulatory function and maintenance of metabolic efficiency are the Adrenal Glands along with their production and regulation of the Steroidal Hormones -- Pregnenolone, Progesterone, Cortisol, DHEA, Testosterone, and the Estrogens. So critical to the questions of health vs. disease are the Adrenals and the Steroidal Hormone Balance that they are involved in regulating virtually every aspect of body function! The Adrenal Cortex, for example, is responsible for producing over 50 different types of hormones. Simply put: As goes the health and functional efficiency of the adrenals, so goes the health and functional efficiency of every aspect of metabolism in the body. Unfortunately, never in recorded history have the Adrenal Glands been under such duress and challenge to maintain life in good health as they are today in our modern world. Once the implications of this fact are understood, it will be easy to see why the rate of degenerative disease is sky-rocketing in our society with cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity at epidemic levels never before seen … and growing worse all the time. Fortunately, with the addition of the Steroidal Hormone Balance FHC to our Metabolic Typing® model, we have the means to reveal both the cause and the solution to this sad state of human health affairs.

Yeah, i have heard that many 'Type A's' do well on a high protein, high meat diet. I have looked at Dr Power's stuff after you mentioned her to me a while back, and she does seem to show much more verifiable immune response correlations between' avoid' foods / drinks, and blood types, and doesnt dip into the realms of conjecture like 90% of Peter D'Adamo's observations do. Rather than do away with the blood type FHC, it would be good if blood type stayed as a 'minor' FHC that is still considered with MT clients, revised to use Dr Power's clinical correlations between blood type and serum immune responses instead, as from what i've read on her site, there are definate health implications to consuming foods that react strongly with a client's blood type. I notice she also found differences in the serum immune reactions as the subjects aged, and also between gender, so if blood type FHC recommendations could consider that it would be even more valuable. I also noticed that Dr Power and Dr Nardi's work on Body / Endocrine Types has produced a more in-depth analysis of the Endocrine FHC, resulting in a Dominant Endocrine Type, and also with Secondary type characteristics. Again, updating the Endocrine Type FHC from Dr Abravanel's original system to take account of Dr Power and Dr Nardi's findings would be useful. Totally agree that metabolic oxidation rates and ANS imbalances are still the key factors. Still interested to hear what the 11th FHC .... It is not that the blood type FHC has been "done away with" per se. We now simply use the Signet MRT test and the BioTek ELISA tests because there is no speculation involved.

Great. I emailed you Eric. Would love it for Mr Wolcott to come out with an expanded 2nd Edition book. EDIT: Just recieved the extra documents. Some excellent new stuff there! Yeah, some pretty good stuff in there. There are multiple new documents that get released to MT advisors every so often and then it is our job to convey that information to our clients. I will certainly keep everyone up to speed on the latest happenings.

Eric (and Rob), Are there any other web resources that you guys frequently visit concerning MT? Other forums, blogs, advisors webpages, etc that you find interesting/beneficial and recommend? Thanks, Jared Jared: Besides the MT forum that is for advisors, I really don't go to many other places. A fellow MT advisor, Sean Croxton, has a channel on blogtalkradio that you may want to check out. It can be found at: www.blogtalkradio.com/UndergroundWellnessI will try to post some of the more important things that crop up on the MT advisors forum here so that everybody remains in the loop. I am also working on some new articles that will be published soon that will shed some light on the latest and greatest trends in the MT community.

An 11th FHC? Intriguing. So HealthExcel are doing away with blood type as a FHC all together? Interesting. I can understand why they are replacing them with proper IgE testing, as this will be far more accurate and personalised. I remember Poliquin stating that MT needs use more clinical tests tlike these to make it more accepted, although i think he recommended using the ION Panel test. However, a major downside is the cost of getting these kind of tests done may make Metabolic Typing prohibatively expensive for some. Personally i think the Constitutional Elements FHC is another that should be done away with, because it is clearly the least scientifically-verifiable, and it seems the only element of that FHC that IS verifiable is the 'body type' aspect of it, which is overlapping into the Endocrine Type FHC All good points and all noted, Rob. Blood Types – MT has been tracking blood types since their introduction by James D’Adamo in his book One Man’s Food… in 1980. Clinically speaking, there is no correlation between Blood Type O’s as carnivores and Blood Type A’s as “vegetarians.” We have seen just as many Blood Type A’s get well on a carnivore diet as we have seen Blood Type O’s get well on a “vegetarian” diet. Although blood type has a minor but useful role to play in Metabolic Typing®, it is really a passive factor that can help determine what foods not to eat-as evidenced by the much more complete works of Laura Power. But the really critical factors that define a Metabolic Type® concern the dynamic, fundamental, regulatory systems that involve the creation, maintenance and control of energy – the ANS and the OS. That is why Bill focuses the most on them.

If Irradiated Foods Cause Multiple Sclerosis, Should We Be Eating Them? In a study just published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) report on cats developing severe neurological symptoms due to a degradation of myelin, the fatty insulator of nerve fibers called axons. Because myelin facilitates the conduction of nerve signals, when it is lost or damaged there can be impairment of sensation, movement, thinking and other functions, depending on what particular nerves are affected. This loss of myelin is found in several disorders of the central nervous system in humans -- the best known being multiple sclerosis (MS). So what caused the cats to develop neurological problems? Although the researchers' statement to the media practically buries the fact, a close read shows the animals were fine until fed irradiated food. What's more, when they were taken off the irradiated diet, the animals' nervous systems began healing. The new study took place when the researchers were faced with reports of a mysterious illness in pregnant cats. A commercial company had been testing various diets on the animals to see how the food impacted growth and development in the felines. The food used, it turns out, had been irradiated. Irradiation, which is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for many human as well as animal foods, involves exposing foods briefly to a radiant energy source such as gamma rays or electron beams in order to kill bacteria. Some of the cats eating the irradiated cat food exhibited very severe neurological symptoms, including pregnant cats started to develop progressive neurological disease," said Ian Duncan, a professor of medical sciences at the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine and an authority on demyelinating diseases, in a statement to the media. The sick cats were shown to have widely distributed the very severe demyelization of the central nervous system. Their neurological symptoms were very much like those seen in people with MS and other demyelization disorders. When the felines were taken off the irradiated foods, they began to recover slowly. However, according to Dr. Duncan, the restored myelin sheaths were no longer as thick as normal myelin sheaths. The finding is important, the scientists concluded in their study, because it shows the central nervous system retains the ability to reestablish myelin -- so strategies that could be developed to spur the growth of new myelin sheaths anywhere nerves themselves are preserved could be a possible therapy for treating a host of severe neurological diseases in humans. "The key thing is that it absolutely confirms the notion that remyelinating strategies are clinically important," Duncan stated. Curiously, although the scientists' related their findings to possible human applications, they were quick to dismiss a possible connection between people, irradiated food and health risk. "We think it is extremely unlikely that (irradiated food) could become a human health problem," Duncan explained in the media statement. "We think it is species specific." However, not everyone agrees irradiated food is fine for humans or animals. According to the Center for Food Safety, studies have shown irradiation produces volatile toxic chemicals such as benzene and toluene, which are known or suspected to cause cancer and birth defects. A 2001 study found an association between colon tumors and 2-alkylcyclobutanones (2-ACB's), a new chemical compound detected only in foods that have been irradiated. Also, Any reason not to switch to Multicom 3 from synergy com 3? Its just cheaper and would save some money........Oxicom 2 really adds up!! Thanks, jared Jared: Among Ultra Life's multi's (the Synergy Com's and Multi Com's) there are 3 kinds: one for protein types, one for carb types, and one for mixed (which you already know). Here is a very good explanation from Bill Wolcott: "Originally, we used only the Synergy-Com #1, #2 and #3 formulas for all the MT’s. * Synergy -Com #1 was for Syms and Slows (Carb Types) * Synergy -Com #2 was for Paras and Fasts (Protein Types) * Synergy -Com #3 was for Balanced and Mixed (The Multi-Com #1, #2, and #3 are the same formulas exactly, but they are USP nutrients, not food grown. They can be substituted exactly for the Synergy -Com #1, #2, and #3 formulas. They are far less expensive. And they should be used for anyone with a yeast allergy, since the Synergy -Com’s use yeast as the grow medium.) Over time, as we learned more and finances allowed, we developed the formulas for the individual types that are currently used in the program. These used only the nutrients AND the specific carriers for them that were precisely targeted to the individual control systems and their pH’s. * Symplex for Sympathetic Dominants to stimulate, strengthen and support the parasympathetic system (shift alkaline) * Paraplex for Parasympathetic Dominants to stimulate, strengthen and support the sympathetic system (shift acid) * Oxi-Com #1 for Slow Oxidizers to increase (balance) the oxidation rate (shift acid) * Oxi-Com #2 for Fast Oxidizers to decrease (balance) the oxidation rate (shift alkaline) * Synergy -Com #3 for Balanced or Mixed Dominants When these are employed, 1 Synergy -Com #3 is given at each meal as a foundation or baseline. Then, “on top” of that is “built” the specific MT formula, using 1-5 MT formula with each meal, depending on the metabolic individuality and circadian requirements of each client at each meal. Customizing the amount of the MT formula at each meal is JUST as important as customizing the macronutrient ratio. The DCR’s can be used for both purposes. BUT, always used a layered approach: MT diet first, then customize the macronutrient ratios, then add the MT supplements and customize the amount of the MT formula at each meal. This time-tested methodology will yield consistently fabulous results." So, essentially what he is saying is that it is basically redundant for a Parasympathetic to take Synergy Com 2 (made for protein types) as well as Paraplex (made for parasympathetic’s, which are a protein type) because only one of them is needed to do the job or fill the nutritional gaps i.e. "more is not always better". It would be like a field commander sending his reinforcements to the flank that he is dominating in that it is unnecessary. There are some very baseline ingredients in the Synergy Com/Multi Com 3 that protein types and carb types can benefit from. However, the 3 series lacks those specific ingredients that a protein type or a carb type needs. Make sense? Many folks find it much easier to take a baseline multi (the 3 series) and then fill in the gaps with that formula that works best for their type (as mentioned above). But if you want to do it all in one, and if it works for you, then you would only need the 2 series. Personally, I get better results by taking the Multi Com 3 for every odd numbered meal for a total of 3 per day and (1) Oxi Com 2 (for fast oxidizers) at every meal for a total of 5 per day. My other option (and your other option) would have been to go with 1-5 Multi Com #2 at each meal.In other words, a switch from Syn Com 3 to Multi Com 3 does not change anything as far as Oxi Com 2 is concerned. However, a switch from Syn Com 3 to Multi Com 2 would eliminate the need for Oxi Com 2; but it would require you going back to the drawing board to fine tune how many Multi Com 2's you would need at each meal. Make sense?

Eric, How would you recommend to start out experimenting with Cataplus? Dosage and timing? Thanks, Jared I would start out with 1 capsule of Cataplus about 30 minutes before training for 3 days and evaluate. The next step would be to take 2 capsules 30 minutes before training. Next would be 2 capsules of Cataplus 30 minutes before training and then 1 Cataplus after training, etc. going as high as 5 or 6 before and after training if needed. Cataplus is much more effective when taken with Liqui G-Plus in 10 drop increments. Personally, I find that 2 caps of Cataplus and 10 drops of Liqui G-Plus both before and after training seem to work very well for me on most training days.

Eric, Thanks for the reply. Is there any published research on the topic? Does Mr. Wolcott have any plans to put out any more information, i.e. updated version of the book, etc? Jared: Rob's post below yours is excellent! There are now actually 11Fundamental Homeostatic Controls of the body. There are new articles being published all the time, but most of them are privy only to MT advisors. It is then our job to pass that information on to our clients. I will ask Bill this week when I talk to him if he has any plans to update his book with a 2nd edition and then report back. In the meantime, if you or anyone else that has previously taken the test with me would like to receive the 2009 documents package, then email me at etalmant@hotmail.com. I have included some new articles in there that are certainly worth reading.

I noticed on the Core Premise part of the HealthExcel site www.healthexcel.com/docs/_core1.html they have added a 10th FHC - Neurotransmitter Imbalance. In Mr Wolcotts original MT book there was only 9 FHC's - nice to see the system is keeping updated with new findings (talking of keeping it updated, i really feel the Blood Type FHC should be updated to be based upon Dr Laura Powers work instead of D' Adamo's, as i get the impression Mr Wolcott feels her work is more scientifically credible, and many others would agree). Eric, i presume this is based upon the Neurogistics system of analysis you discussed here asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=91062&tid= . How important is this FHC in relation to the others? Rob: Actually, there are now 11 Fundamental Homeostatic Controls I will be putting some more information on here regarding the 11th FHC, so stay tuned. The blood type FHC has been replaced with the Signet MRT Test and the BioTek IgE Elisa Test. Yes, the 10th FHC is based upon Neurogistics neurotransmitter testing and it becomes *very important* when some of the symptoms of a client seem to persist or not improve. It really does require proper application, and that is where certified MT advisors come into play. Every client is a case-by-case basis, but in my experience one of the prime candidates for neurotransmitter testing is someone who continues to experience sleep problems despite being on their MT plan, proper supplementation, removing blocking factors, etc. for several months. However, there are of course other applications.

Why do you think that Metabolic Typing hasn't caught on more than it has? You read the book and it makes perfect sense..try it and even more so. How come its still a very small subculture if you will? I'd like to get your thoughts on this. Thanks, Jared Hello Jared. This is *VERY SIMPLE*. It is the culture of Metabolic Typing and how we advisors are taught to proclaim the good word. In a culture where everyone is quite vain and wants instant gratification, Metabolic Typing does not promise that you will rapidly reduce body fat and do it in a matter of weeks. It promotes building health, which does not sell as many books as the latest fad diet. However, if you were to poll those that do adopt the Metabolic Typing philosophy as opposed to the kind of person that buys "The South Beach Diet", what you will find is that the person practicing MT has been doing so for years, and that the South Beach diet person has already moved on to the next fad. In addition, we as advisors are taught (properly, in my opinion) to not push Metabolic Typing, per se. We educate and then leave it up to the individual to decide. Working with the fad dieter is a dead-end road, and our screening process for such people is pretty involved; or at least mine is. MT is not about selling books and just making money. It is about educating the public and then if they see the light for us advisors to be completely and totally there for that person every step of the way. At the end of the day, our predominantly lazy society would just rather take a pill to cover up the symptoms than address the cause. We don't play to the masses and for that MT remains comparatively small; but extremely devoted, successful, and healthy!

Thanks Eric. So, the preperation is pretty much the same as when handling any other meat / fish. I would say i'm at the medium-rare to rare stage with cooking my meat and fish. i recently tried some raw tuna seasoned with some seasalt and ginger puree, which was delicious, and also some raw New Zealand lambs liver which made me feel extremely vitalised abotu 30 mins after eating it. Organic meat is a often a bit out of my budget, but i get New Zealand lamb meat and offal, which, from what i understand is free-range and pretty much organic in many respects. Unfortunately its frozen, but i have read that the freezing process is a good thing, because it kills parasites? I also get sprats, which i have read have a very low contaminant load, and are high in omega 3's and purines, which is great for a parasympathetic like me. Sounds like you've got it worked out and that you are headed in the right direction.
